I’m an experienced journalist whose enthusiasm for the health beat has only grown over time. My favorite assignments involve explaining complex medical research and federal regulations and policies in simple terms. I often write about battles over the costs of treatments and questions about the evidence supporting their use.

As a freelancer, I require little or no direction from editors. But I’m always happy to talk about stories. Getting to chat with colleagues is one of the best things about being a journalist. My specialty is bringing added context and depth to stories written on tight deadlines, but I also enjoy working on feature stories. I’m based in Washington, D.C.

In 2026, I’m seeking assignments to write about:

–advances in cellular and gene therapy and the strategies to cover their cost.
–questions about artificial intelligence in medicine. How do we know whether AI-powered tools are helping patients? Who’s checking on them?
–how new drugs and vaccines make it to market.
